Director Robert Mulligan, United States, 1962. Gregory Peck, Mary Bedham, Robert Duval and others.
The novel by American writer Harper Lee «Kill a Mockingbird» was released in 1960. It was written on the basis of real events that took place during the author’s childhood in the United States. Filled with humor and warmth, the novel raises serious questions for the reader about racism, sexual violence and social inequality.

According to many critics, «Kill a mockingbird» teaches the reader a lesson of high civil and human courage (the focus of these virtues is the main hero of the novel, lawyer Atticus Finch, the prototype of which was the author’s father). The romance is part of 80 per cent of American schools; its total English edition has exceeded 30 million copies; it is included in the 200 Best Books list of BBC. It was translated into Russian in 1963 by Noroy Gal and Raisa Oblonski.

The film «Kill a Mockingbird» is included in the U.S. National Film Registry as having «cultural, historical or aesthetic significance». The American Film Institute named Atticus Finch the greatest film hero of the 20th century.
