The «Trophy» Hangers Collection. An item for the HSE ART AND DESIGN STORE.

The project consists of a series of «Trophy» interior coat racks, inspired by rock paintings. The goal of the project is to create a functional and manufacturable interior design piece for the HSE ART AND DESIGN STORE. The fluid silhouettes of ancient imagery have been reinterpreted in concise forms, transforming the coat racks into a reference to hunting trophies.

Students, faculty, and visitors of the School interested in original interior pieces with a distinct concept.

Constraints
Limited run of 10–50 units. Fabrication of a prototype on a tight schedule. Emphasis on simple production technology, accessible cost, and high-quality finishing while considering the possibility of future mass production.

During the study, we examined the history of cave paintings, the depiction of animals, the character of the lines, and the plasticity of the silhouettes. The primary visual prototypes selected were rock carvings from the Lascaux Cave in France and the National Monument «Bear Ears» in the USA. The analysis of these images allowed us to identify characteristic techniques for conveying animal forms: expressive contours, smooth lines, generalized silhouettes, and an emphasis on the most recognizable details.

The «Trophy» hanger concept is inspired by prehistoric cave paintings depicting animals, whose silhouettes are reinterpreted through smooth lines and concise forms. In primitive times, hunting provided humans with food and materials for making clothing. Today, the garment hanging on the hanger becomes a kind of trophy, and the hanger itself reimagines the image of ancient quarry in contemporary product design.

The hangers are constructed from 9 mm plywood—it is sturdy, resists deformation under the weight of clothing, and remains lightweight. The intricate contour is cut by laser for high precision and a smooth edge: a focused beam instantly vaporizes the material, allowing for the absolute replication of even the finest and most fluid lines. The piece has been sanded to remove soot and roughness. The painting is done with acrylic paints, and a final lacquer coating protects the wood from moisture, scratches, and wear, extending its lifespan.
