Kintsugi (Japanese for «to mend with gold») is a Japanese art of restoration. In the city, the patch is the earth, which softens impacts and grants new life to what has been destroyed. The tile represents the roads, connections, and relationships formed between people. A fractured tile is embraced by the earth, thereby forming a new, stable symbiosis—the earth heals, repairs, and accepts any flaws, mending them. The earth patches the crack. The earth reveals history and allows for the creation of a unique pattern.
The visual work is inspired by the concept of kintsugi and demonstrates the fragility of the human world—a world that allows people to become stronger and more resilient, because a structure mended with earth is stronger than tiles.
