Concept
Nerikomi (練り込み) is a Japanese technique for working with clay, where several colored clay masses are combined to create a cohesive piece featuring a unique pattern reminiscent of the texture of agate or marble. The name literally translates to «kneading» or «mashing.»
The piece features an image of the lady’s slipper orchid—a rare, protected plant. The technique intentionally avoids perfect lines: the pattern seems to drift, the petals shift, and the cut is imprecise. And that is the essence of it. Imperfection resonates with how something rare and nearly vanished persists in memory. You seldom encounter a protected flower in nature—and in memory, it too is blurred. It is not an exact copy, but an echo: recognizable, yet indistinct.
