THE COLLECTOR’S PRINCIPLE
— it is a multimedia exhibition project dedicated to chance discoveries and the exploration of urban space.

This project is dedicated to a meticulous exploration of Moscow’s Baumansky District. Its foundation was built upon walks taken with female artists, during which discovered objects were transformed into exhibits and elements for the future catalog.
Documenting the search process and exhibition
This work was created specifically for the HSE Art and Design School’s Grand Exhibition. It is based on the 2024 thesis project, «The Collector’s Principle,» but the catalog was entirely re-edited, designed, and reprinted during the process.
The catalog documents the entire search process: interviews with participants, site photographs, route maps, and 223 discovered objects, each noting its weight, discovery time, and coordinates.
It is designed as a field notebook—a tool that allows one to view the city as a multilayered space, where random detritus of urban life forms its own landscape.
Seven female artists who utilized the «random walk» method in their artistic practice were selected to participate in the walks and subsequent exhibition. All walks began and ended at a single point. The artists were unaware of each other’s routes throughout the walk and decided for themselves where to go and what to collect.
