Concept
While working on an illustration for the «Ghostbusters» project, I wanted to reimagine the childhood icons of the cult classic film by conveying the atmosphere it evoked during my first viewing. The work is rooted in my early memories—when the film’s fantastical world seemed especially vibrant, and its characters stirred a complex mixture of fear, curiosity, and delight.
Link to the academic project
The primary artistic direction chosen was a cartoon aesthetic, which allowed for enhanced character expressiveness, exaggeration of defining traits, and giving familiar figures a new voice. Special attention was paid to the composition’s dynamism, the illustration’s emotional quality, and the richness of the visual elements.
Within the «Factory» project, the illustration found a new application, becoming the central element on a textile tote bag print. Thus, a personal perception of the film was transformed into an independent graphic image, merging nostalgia for childhood, humor, and contemporary illustration.

Production Stages
Design Development An original illustration was created for the «Ghostbusters» project, inspired by personal childhood memories of the film Ghostbusters. During development, special attention was paid to a cartoonish style, expressive silhouettes, exaggerated forms, and the emotional character of the figures. The composition was adapted for placement on the front of a textile shopper, taking into account the product format’s specific characteristics and the visual perception of the image on fabric.
Pattern Making and Cutting Shopper patterns are developed considering the chosen dimensions and structural features. The main components of the product include the front and back panels of the bag, as well as two handles. Dense cotton fabric is cut according to the prepared patterns, including the necessary seam allowances, and the top edge of the product is finished.
Garment Construction The main components of the shopper are assembled using sewing equipment. The side and bottom seams are sewn and finished to prevent fraying of the fabric. The top edge of the bag is finished with a turned-over hem and a securing stitch. The product’s handles are fixed with additional reinforcement at the attachment points to enhance strength and resistance to daily wear.
