Title of the work, name of the author/brand name: Vessel with a lid, Elena Kim/Chaeum Ceramics
Concept and function of the work: Concise shape of the vessel echoes Korean traditional vessels of the 15th century. Rhythm of the pattern, smooth lines and bright contrast of black and white ornaments create vividness and dynamism of the shape. The vessel can be used as an independent interior item as well as a storage.
Target audience: Fanciers of handmade ceramics, connoisseurs of Korean traditional culture, interior stylists.
Technique, technology, materials: The vessel is manufactured by slip-casting black clay, covered with a thin layer of white slip and decorated in traditional Korean technique «backji». In this technique a contour is cut on the surface of the vessel with a sharp instrument, then white slip is removed around the pattern. The result is a slightly raised white decor on the black background. After that the vessel is fired for 10 hours, covered with a glaze and then fired for the second time for 12 hours.
