stay alert to the skirt

Based on research into the unconventional dressing practices utilized by thieves, fraudsters, smugglers, bootleggers, and simply resourceful women, I have developed a teaser for my diploma collection. This is a material study of clothing as an accomplice and a tool for clandestine female agency. I am visualizing the tactics of 19th and 20th-century thieves, smugglers, and con artists, translating their constructive ingenuity into the language of contemporary design. The focus of this work is combining external aesthetics with hidden functionality, transforming the costume into a system for secret operations.
