Art Object for Graduation Project
The object—a rail made of pine needles—reflects the essence of the project proposal: to reclaim and preserve the lost spirit of the place, to conserve its aesthetic and aroma. Undeniably, this will be in a slightly transformed form, distinct from its past legacy—with a new sheen and a visible memory of what once was.

Malakhovka—a well-known «ancient village"—was frequented by Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich for hunting in the 17th century. In the early 20th century, the location became a gathering place for artists: V. Mayakovsky, F. Ranevskaya, F. Shalyapin, M. Chagall, and many others spent their leisure time and worked here.
Malakhovka is located 10 km southeast of Moscow, on the periphery of the Meshchora Lowland. The railway platform is situated on the Moscow—Ryazan line.
The village is unique in its atmosphere—a blend of vibrant, festive holiday spirit and high artistic expression.

The theatrical life of Malakhovka was intense and high-caliber. Throughout the season (from late May to late August), dozens of performances were staged here: artists from the Maly Theatre, the Art Theatre, and the Chamber Theatre performed, and opera soloists such as Shalyapin, Sobinov, and Nezhdanova sang.
In this day and age
Malakhovka today is a lack of integrity and spirit—a chaotic and overburdened environment of buildings near the train station.
Previously…
- Transitional environment along the railway line
- Regular planning structure near the station
- Tourist promenades and tram stops
- Suburban development dominated by wooden structures
- High proportion of green areas (coniferous trees)
- Proximity to the theater—culture and celebration
The goal is to transform the space near the railway platform into the image of Malakhovka—a suburban recreational area rich in cultural heritage, theatrical history, and expressive wooden architecture.
Transformation Schema
The project concept is to declutter the space near the train station.
The old market will be transformed into a city square, the stalls into an orchard, and the area between them into a pine forest.
The urban front is enclosed by labyrinths of commercial development; the environment lacks historical context. Now, the environment is being shaped as a restored pine landscape—a purification stage after exiting the station.
Master Plan
- Square and artery leading to the lake
- Amphitheater on the tracks
- Market square, fountain
- Restored pine forest
- Building design code
- Orchard
- Historical mausoleum
- Long-term flower bed
- Reconstructed crossings
- Updated canopies
- Second light in the gallery
- Greened former platform
- Square with a clock at the start of the path to the theater
- Pedestrian line of history
- Entrance to the underground parking lot
Station
The canopy on the platform utilizes a standard structure; the goal is to infuse the spirit of the old Malakhovka into the dimensions of the existing object.
