Eat it all

PROTECT STATUS: not protected

How much waste do you think we generate in just one day from eating? Some people think waste only comes from plastic use or other consumer items. But they might not realize that food can also create waste, possibly more than we imagine. Leftovers from meals, unused ingredients from cooking, or expired food all constitute food waste. So, why does it matter? Why should we care? Because it is not just food scraps left on a plate; it is a major global issue with severe impacts on the economy, society, and the environment. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that at least 30% of all food produced globally ends up as food waste, translating to a massive monetary loss annually (around 940 trillion USD). Over 930 million tons of food are discarded every year (equivalent to about 6 million blue whales). This results in an unnecessary loss of resources and assets, while also contributing to global warming and greenhouse gas emissions, which subsequently lead to a cascade of other problems.
