RESEARCH
I was drawn to the image of women created by painters Frederick Sulacroix and Vittorio Reggianini. In their late 19th and early 20th-century works, the past is presented as an idealized world of aristocratic Europe: silk, satin, soft light, flowers, exquisite interiors, salons, jewelry, and feathers.
The artists appeal to the 18th century not as an exact historical reality, but as a romanticized image of the past—beautiful, refined, and almost unattainable.

This is very similar to ERDEM, whose core concept is the reinterpretation of the past through the lens of contemporary fashion. The designer draws inspiration from history, art, literature, and female archetypes from various eras, transforming them into modern and emotionally resonant collections.
Inspired by the ERDEM brand, this project explores the romanticized image of women from the past in painting, reinterpreting it through a contemporary lens. It is an attempt to continue the story of the woman depicted on the canvas and to envision who she might be today.
