Aflourish (flourish—flourishing, flourish, scroll) is a delicate, accent script typeface featuring two weights: Regular and Teardrop. The font embodies a straightforward, sincere, and sentimental character, drawing its name from the poem «Suicide’s Note: An Annual» by contemporary American poet Mary Carr.

Metamodernism, whose intonations served as the primary source of inspiration for the typeface, finds one of its most vivid and multifaceted reflections in the field of music.
Using the typeface as the foundation for the video project, I continue the exploration of irony and naivete by introducing the typeface to «sound» like a homemade synthesizer, and adding a third symbolic variant to the flourish—resonant.

The video demonstrates a new dimension around typography—a musical one—in the format of changing monochrome audio-reactive scenes that reveal the characteristics of the typeface’s graphics.
Using Codex, we developed a landing page prototype with a piano-style mechanism for interacting with a «musical» typeface. The site components include piano and typetester modes, and a glyphs window providing information about each sample.
The website allows you to explore the font’s glyph set, test the resonant typeface, and play a melody over any rendered text.
