The project consists of two video studies. The first, «Let’s Make Movies About Love, ” is entirely edited from footage from another film. The source material is given a completely opposing meaning. The second, „You’re Born, ” is a short, original film dedicated to the metaphorical theme of birth as an internal and existential event.
REEDITING / LET’S FILM STORIES OF LOVE
For the basis of my film, I drew inspiration from «Naked» (United Kingdom, 1993, directed by Mick Leigh).
«Naked» is a complex artistic film about sexual violence. The woman in the frame is one that the protagonist in the original film was unable to rape.
In my film, I attempted to rewrite the original plot and transform it into a video about the torments of love. The title, «Let’s Make Films About Love,» was also borrowed from a film by director Roman Mikhailov. I hope it conveys the bittersweet irony with which I approached my work.
ORIGINAL FILM / YOU’RE BORN
My short film consists of three parts: In the first part, an androgynous heroine flies into the void; in the second, she begins to realize herself; and in the third, she redirects her gaze from within to without.
This work can be understood and interpreted in various ways: these processes—flight into the subconscious void, self-awareness, and directing the gaze outward—are characteristic of many processes of human consciousness.
I titled the film «You’re Born”—this title refers to the general process of metaphorical birth, after which, one way or another, no one can ever be the same.
