COVER FOR «ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE»
Problem: the lack of book covers for «One Hundred Years of Solitude» that would capture the multifaceted meaning of the work and convey its atmosphere.
- I wanted to use the symbol of cyclicality—representing the succession of generations within the Buendía family—as a foundation, so I settled on the Mesoamerican calendar (from the region that is now Mexico), which follows a circular structure.2. The characters themselves are depicted as a series of stylized human figures moving in a circle. Such light, stylized imagery is a common element of the visual culture of the author’s homeland.
«It rained for four years, eleven months, and two days.»3. This references a pivotal quote that captures both the lack of change and the presence of magical realism in the book; the background is textured to evoke a downpour.
ILLUSTRASIONS FOR «OLE-LUKOJE»
Illustrations for Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale «Ole-Lukoie,» created using a technique that combines digital illustration and gouache.
The primary objective was not merely to illustrate the book, but also to convey the contrast between the real world and a dreamlike, fairy-tale realm — using color, light, and subtle details that hint at the unreal nature of the setting.
