What does it mean to be human? This question cannot be answered in a single sentence…

«Humans Are…» gathers the gazes of photographers from different corners of the globe in an attempt to create a portrait of humanity. Not through history, achievements, or events, but through moments familiar to everyone. It is a visual archive of the human experience and a reminder that, despite all differences, we are united by far more than we realize.
The book references the aesthetic of Love Is…, but instead of defining love between two people, it presents an attempt to define the individual person.

The book is divided into two chapters, gradually delving into more personal themes. Each chapter features one photographer from each cardinal direction to illuminate the most diverse perspectives on what it means to be human (I deliberately separate North and South America because their mindsets are vastly different).

At the core of the book’s navigation is the image of Earth as a shared space of human experience. Country codes are presented in circles that reference hemispheres.
Points within the hemispheres denote the countries where the photographers whose work is included in the project were born or worked. They form a unique map of perspectives on humanity, compiled from diverse cultures, contexts, and life experiences.
