Synopsis

A sorrowful lady departs: with her is luggage filled with cherished possessions, and her beloved dog. She likely anticipates something positive from the trip, but instead encounters indifference and rejection. The carriage driver glances disdainfully at the opulent luggage, the cleaner carelessly brushes against the lady’s dress with a wet rag, and in the eyes of the street loafer, the cultured lady transforms into a «bourgeoisie.»

At the train station, everything is accounted for on the manifest: a sofa, a briefcase, a painting—everything is recorded. A lady asks to add her dog so it won’t get lost. The staff grudgingly add the line: «dog—1 unit.» It sounds dry, as if it were just an item and not a beloved pet—but that is the procedure.

In the hustle and bustle, the little dog gets lost. A woman tries to sort out the situation: first she hopes, then she gets angry—she even yells at the porter who is bringing luggage and a large stray dog, as if he had failed in his job. And no one wants to fix anything; no one values these things as much as she does, and no one considers her feelings. Gradually, the anger subsides, leaving only exhaustion and a bitter realization: she cannot change anything here.

In the finale, the woman ties that very ribbon onto the large dog—the one that was on her dog. Not because she is happy, not because she wants a new dog—she only needs her beloved pet. This ribbon simply helps her maintain a connection to what was dear to her. Among all these things, it holds onto the only thing that remains unspoiled. And even if the dog—though unfamiliar, dirty, and mixed-breed—is now near, she cannot abandon him. It is important for her to preserve not just the object, but her own human connection: to care for the dog and not lose her values amidst the indifference of the crowd.

Author’s Insight

A story about how the personal is devalued and reduced to an invoice: as if the existence of something is only validated by a line in a document. Things, feelings, people—everything loses its weight. And how does one remain true to oneself amidst the judgments and rules of others?

Have you ever…

… situations where you had to give up something valuable to you, even if it was time?
… when the small things, the daily routines that matter to you, were rejected by society?

This story will resonate with anyone who has ever felt: everything around you follows the rules, but what matters most to you simply doesn’t fit those rules. And with anyone who knows how much a single small detail can mean—a ribbon, a note, a familiar gesture.

Project Context

The narrative is set against the backdrop of a realistic world—the atmosphere of the 1920s. An era where the domestic history revealed contrasts not only between the wealthy and the poor, but also between those who had rapidly prospered and those who had been collectivized. It was a time when holding valuables was discouraged, and a «bourgeois» lifestyle was openly condemned.

Visual Solution of the Film

post

No less important in conveying the story is the film’s artistic direction: the backgrounds, characters, and objects are rendered with a watercolor texture, which helps maintain the dramatic line of the animation rather than pushing it entirely into comedy.

Goals

— To create a technically polished animated film featuring an authorial statement that the viewer can clearly discern. The events depicted in the film must be comprehensible to the audience.

— To execute a combined, self-directed process for creating an animated film within a tight deadline (up to 9 months), utilizing the selected media: 2D + 3D + watercolor. This includes tracking tasks, timelines, and deliverables outsourced versus those completed independently, for future project documentation.

— Submitting the film to Russian and international festivals («SuzdalFest, ” „BFM, ” „Annecy“).

— Enhancing the portfolio.
