August 2025.
The village of Donskoye smelled of wormwood, warmed pine needles, and something elusive carried on the western wind. Lera arrived here almost by chance. In her suitcase, alongside shorts and sneakers, there was a heavy, dusty boredom—that adolescent apathy born from too much free time and the absence of answers to the question, «Who am I?» The youth center «SHUM» seemed to her just another item on the calendar, a way to kill three weeks of vacation.

She had never seen the sea before. To her, it existed only on the flat pages of geography textbooks and glossy phone wallpapers. But the Baltic Sea resists flatness. It is depth, precipice, and rhythm.
On the very first evening, as the sun began to melt slowly, transforming into a thick, honeyed light, they were led to the shore. This descent became for Lera not just a path to the water, but a legendary route of her new life. Five stops. Five frontiers. Five breaths.
First stop.
The threshold of the familiar. They stopped at the last house in the village of Donskoye. Beyond that, the asphalt gave way to a trail, and the cozy village life dissolved into a wild premonition of vastness. Lera turned back toward civilization. Her idleness ended here.
«Why are you really here?"—the first question of the journey echoed in his mind.
Lera honestly answered herself, «Because I had nothing else to do.» It was the absolute zero point.
Second stop.
At a sharp turn of the stairs leading to the shore, the camp buildings suddenly disappeared from view, swallowed by thick greenery. Only a narrow thread of steps and a hum rising from below remained.
«Are you ready to move forward when old benchmarks disappear?»
At that moment, Lera felt a strange jolt of excitement. Fear of the unknown suddenly gave way to a greedy desire to see what was around the bend.
Third stop.
They stood right on the stairs, trapped between the sky and the earth. The voices of the students drifted from above and below—they were discussing projects, arguing about meaning, and laughing. This multi-voiced clamor intertwined with the rustle of the leaves.
«Who is moving alongside you? Can you feel their rhythm?»
Lera looked at the tanned faces of her peers. Suddenly, it mattered to her not just to make it herself, but to make it together with them. The emptiness inside began to fill with someone else’s energy, which suddenly became her own.
Fourth stop.
The steps ended. Feet touched the shifting ground, where sand mixed with fine gravel. Several meters separated them from the great water, hidden behind the last rocky outcrop. Here, the air turned cold and salty.
«What are you willing to give to become part of something bigger?»
Lera paused on the threshold. She realized she no longer wanted to be a «consumer of time.» She felt a desire to generate that momentum, to build those stairs for others, to be the guide who leads the way.
Stop five.
They emerged onto the shore of Philinskaya Bay. The enormous, steel Baltic Sea crashed upon Lera with all its majesty. This was not a blue smudge on a map—it was a living, breathing element. The waves broke against the shore with a thunderous roar, and that sound—the true ROAR—filled her entire being.
«What is your personal meaning? What noise will you bring to this world?»
Lera stood at the water’s edge, and foam touched her sneakers for the first time. She had come here out of idleness, but standing on this shore, in August 2025, she found her calling. She understood that her place was here—at the epicenter of this vibrant work with people, within this youth center, in this ability to transform the silence of indifference into generative noise. The path to the sea was over. The journey within began. And the Baltic, the witness to this transformation, hummed an approving response back to her.
