ARTUF | Modular Matchbox

«Modular Box”—a reimagining of the matchbox through the visual culture of Yerevan. During the trip, I was struck by the sheer amount of ornamentation and visual detail in the city itself. I collected photographs of textures, prints, and significant urban surfaces, which formed the basis for the box’s design. The construction is made of interchangeable modules that can be combined and swapped out. It also incorporates a compartment for used matches, transforming the box from disposable packaging into a functional object. The project merges Yerevan’s local visual motifs, individual curation, and a new function for the familiar matchbox.

The name is derived from the combination of the words «art» and «tuf»
It connects the artistic foundation of the project with Yerevan’s central material and visual symbol—volcanic tuff, which dictates the color palette, rhythm, and texture of the city’s architecture.
