Two sisters greet the first airplane in the sky with childlike delight, unaware that it will be a harbinger of something dreadful.

The sisters happily spend a summer day, but war shatters their world. During an air raid, they take refuge under a bridge, where the older sister protects the younger. When they are discovered by enemy officers, the older sister sacrifices herself to save the younger. Roles then reverse—the younger sister becomes the savior to her older sister.
