Concept
This project reimagines Slavic mythology through the lens of opera, where each creature have been transformed into a performer, musician, composer, or a spectator.
Vodyanoy

Audience Member Vodyanoy — He sits half submerged at the river’s edge. Observing from the surface. Patient in the way that rivers are patient.
Rusalka

Ballet Dancer Rusalka — She moves as a water spirit, as though resistance is a suggestion, each step is weightless, her technique precise. Ballet is the form suited to what she is, a spirit caught between grief and beauty, between the living world and the one beneath it.
Leshy

Cello Player Leshy — He sits with the cello braced between his knees, too large for the chair and entirely unbothered by it. The instrument suits him well, made out of wood closely related to the forest he governs.
Baba Yaga

Composer Baba Yaga — An ancient witch composing melodies in complete solitude. Composing is simply an extension of what she has always done, setting the terms of the journey and deciding where the path bends.
Sirin

Opera Singer Sirin — She perches high on a branch at the forest’s edge, and sings into the open sky with her head tilted and her wings stretched. Her voice is her nature. Her voice is beautiful enough to enchant anyone who hears it.
Koschei

Piano Player Koschei — An immortal sorcerer seated before the piano with eerie composure. The instrument is entirely fitting, mechanical, precise, built to outlast nearly everything, much like him.
