Hello! My name is Katya Dovator, I graduated from the HSE Art and Design School with a Bachelor’s degree in Motion Design with honors, and I started teaching Touch Designer in my 4th year.
During my studies, I focused on two specializations: motion design and typography. Motion design became a field for experimentation—I created music videos, promotional videos, and developed animation for brand identities, while also experimenting with new concepts in Touch Designer. Typography, on the other hand, gave me a deep understanding of how to build and manage design systems.
Motion Projects
Music Video

The visual language is inspired by African masks and dominant ethnic motifs in music.

Kinetic Typography
In this project, I merged my love for typography with motion design to create an experimental video about what scent is.
The work is based on Ryoko Segikuthi’s book, «The Call of Scents.» Fragments from the «Scent Diary» flow into one another, much like aromas mingling in the air.
Generative Identity
While working on the identity for the slow cinema festival, I set a goal for myself to try integrating graphics created in TouchDesigner to explore the potential application of this software within the brand style.
This is the generative light and shadow game I came up with. The patch, assembled in TouchDesigner, made it easy to create unique textures from tree photographs for various media.
Navigating the School
Together with Asia Osipova, I created a campus navigation plan for the HSE Art and Design School on Malaya Pionerskaya Street.
Book Projects
Typography-focused projects make up the majority of my portfolio. In my second year, I realized how much I am drawn to book design. I enjoy designing layouts, conceptualizing systems, selecting typefaces, and then actually printing and binding the books.
