The prototypes of the vases from the «Curls of the earth» series were ancient wooden ladles and brats. I was struck by the line of their shape and the intricate carvings on the handles, I wanted to connect the past history with a modern interior object. In covering the vases, I used wild soils collected on the banks of the Vaga River in the village of Shelota. The hand-sculpted shapes underwent high wood-burning and gained integrity, unity. The authentic shape and surface will become a grounding point in a modern interior, often made of concrete and glass. In my opinion, such an attempt to restore contact with the world is becoming more relevant than ever in modern times, and here one can observe how familiar things, namely vessels absorbing the past and present, the natural and cultural code of mankind, fit into the modern scale of events and acquire new, sacred meanings for modern people.
