Colored apartment in Moscow

The interior of this apartment was created for daily rent, a popular destination in Moscow. There was only one wish — wow effect. Bold, beautiful, aesthetic and memorable

When I first got to the apartment, there was a renovation from the developer — suspended ceilings, wallpaper, laminate, plastic baseboard. The height to the suspended ceiling was 3.5 metres, having removed it, we found another 40 centimeters of space. So the total height became 3.9 metres. Of course, this was the main advantage of the project, a good height for making an additional floor. I consider the disadvantage of the original layout to be the hallway, it is small in area and at the same time with very high ceilings — you feel like you are in a well.

The main task, as the customer asked, is to make a WOW. To make not a typical white interior, but something that really stands out from the crowd. The main idea of the project is to make a space in which both women and men will be comfortable. Universal. Apply solutions that guests would not dare to make at home, but would be interested in visiting such an interior.

We made 2 floors out of a high and narrow hallway — we built on a bedroom. The height of the new hallway is 2.1 metres. Quite enough. You can stand up to your full height in the bedroom. We extended the hallway a little to build in the kitchen and place all the necessary appliances in it, including a washing machine. We practically didn’t touch the bathroom — we just installed a good sink, a glass shower enclosure and added cozy details. The layout and arrangement of furniture was created in such a way that 4 people could easily fit in the apartment. That’s why we have a table for 4 people, a full double bed and a fold-out sofa on the 1st floor. Since this is an apartment for daily rent, the customer and I decided that an oven and hood are not needed here. But for making breakfast or sitting with friends in the evening, there is everything you need.

I initially knew that I needed to use a dark palette and «divide» the height. The feeling of a well did not leave me all the time — the area is small, and the height is large. It was necessary to definitely move away from it and create an enveloping space. Therefore, as the main colors, I chose graphite and warm beige. A beautiful combination. But I am not me if I do not add bright details. Such a detail was the dividing molding, a little reminiscent of signal tape in its color. When I came up with it, the goal was to clearly separate the floors — and so it turned out, you can’t miss this division. Blue and green colors in the hallway and bedroom became a good color addition to the chosen range of the main room. I think that without them, it could have turned out gloomy

In the hallway, I painted the walls and ceiling dark blue — the best solution for small spaces. When we paint the walls a dark shade, they gain depth, they seem to be «further away», and if we paint both the walls and the ceiling in the same color, the border that shows us the true height is erased. I also chose tiles for the floor in this shade.

The wall with glass blocks between the hallway and the main room is made so that daylight penetrates into the hallway. And of course, such a solution has a positive effect on the first impression of the guest.

The tiles on the apron in the form of cookies from the Tiramisu dessert — whet the appetite and greatly soften the dark range of the walls and kitchen

I love this project and I am proud of it. When I was here for the first time, it was a faceless white space, cold and uncomfortable. But now, there is character, there is life and you will want to come back here again and again.
