Lika Ilina created a series of linen panels in the tufting technique and inspired by ancient Russian architecture, in particular the facade of the Dmitrov Cathedral in Vladimir. Her works trace the influence of Art Nouveau and the work of Sergey Vashkov, who drew inspiration from the same sources.

The symbolism of the facade of the Dmitrov Cathedral played an important role for the masters of Art Nouveau. The architects of the 12th century, Sergey Vashkov, who revolutionized religious art, and Lika Ilina today, all strive for harmony between art and nature, using organic forms and symbolism to convey ideas and emotions. Thus, the symbols in Lika’s textile works, connect the past and the present, emphasizing the beauty of cultural heritage.
