About the Project:
«The Holiday I Missed» is a visual study of Soviet Christmas ornaments and the stories they might tell us—or if they can.

a folder from a Soviet New Year’s magazine and ropes

Book structure solution
The book’s structure is built upon a simple principle. The book has three chapters, organized chronologically and segmented by the ideologies and meanings conveyed by Christmas ornaments from different eras.
Smut titles (developed based on Soviet New Year’s postcards)
Spreads recalling holidays and toys
Spreads featuring letters from pre-Soviet and Soviet-era individuals are paired with pages utilizing a stencil, which serves as a textural element and literally realizes the process of «decorating Christmas ornaments"—but not the tree, but the book.
