K2 and Everest—two of the planet’s highest peaks. These mountains are united by their altitude but separated by their character. While Everest was long regarded as the planet’s supreme height, K2 has become a symbol of complexity and risk. Conquering them tells two vastly different stories of human persistence, exploration, and the overcoming of one’s own limits.
The two sides of the cover reflect the book’s duality.
The book traces the journey from the first reconnaissance expeditions to the first successful summits of Everest and K2. Despite their similar altitudes, these peaks possess entirely different characters—their routes, technical difficulty, the number of expeditions, and the conquest stories themselves all differ.

For visual balance and to maintain contrast between the two sections of the image, toning is applied.
K2: dark blue.
K2 is located in the Karakoram Range, a name that translates to «black gravel.» The gravel near K2 is characterized by a dark blue hue.
Everest: dark red.
This color references the Tibetan monastery of Tengboche at the foot of the mountain, as well as the Nepalese flag.
Chapter titles that divide the book into two parts.
The main goal is to allow the reader to compare two chronicles—to see not only the development of mountaineering but also how human perceptions of their own capabilities have evolved.
