TOTEM is a bio-urn project that will have an educational function and tell about how to properly say goodbye to a pet without harming the environment. It is known that the most environmentally friendly way to bury a deceased pet is to cremate it, but in Russia there are still many spontaneous burials of domestic animals. Bio-urn is a technology of plant cultivation using pet ashes. Ashes and plant seeds are placed in a bowl made of gelatin-based bioplastic. Thus, the animal is given a «second life» in the form of a plant. In addition to bioplastic, slaughterhouse by-products will be used to produce the TOTEM bio-urn. According to statistics, about 130 billion kg of slaughterhouse bones are produced annually in the world. Such biomaterial contributes well to soil fertilization, thus favorably affecting plant growth.
