Poster series for the Kolomna Fest city festival.
I. Kolomna Birds x Kalachi
Although Kolomna may not boast an abundance of green spaces, the area remains home to numerous birds. In the fast rhythm of daily life, they are easy to overlook, even though it is the birds and their songs that bring the familiar urban backdrop to life. Sometimes, all it takes is buying a loaf of bread at a local Kolomna coffee shop, walking along the Griboyedov Canal, and turning into a small park to see and hear the city in a new light.
The paper cutouts of birds resemble newspaper clippings and reference the «Kolomna Sheet.»
One of the festival’s goals is to make the kalach a significant symbol of the district. We wanted to develop this idea and integrate the eating of kalaches into the tranquil urban leisure time. This led to the series of posters about birds and kalaches, which we conceived and created with Alfia Zulkarnayeva.
Posters featuring birds and kalach breads can be displayed in pairs on the streets of Kolomna, near parks and gardens.
II. The City House of Industry of Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna
Near St. Nicholas Cathedral, on the Griboyedov Canal embankment, stands the semi-ruined House of Diligence of Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna, built in 1896–1897 with funds from the city treasury. Although one of the complex’s buildings has been restored and now houses a hotel, the other remains uninhabited.
His windows are covered with numerous grates of intriguing shapes—they formed the basis of the series. It is likely that the building will be restored someday, and the series will preserve the memory of the Labor House’s appearance.
