Hand weaving. The material chosen is natural textile fiber — jute, different shades of which were achieved by hand dyeing. The base is made of birch with hand-processed edges.
In traditional folk culture, ornamental compositions were made with the purpose of creating a kind of amulet. But even in our time, these motifs represent a strong connection between the present and the past, the «protective power» lies in our genetic memory, the necessary connection with our «roots». On a subconscious level, the visual and tactile perception of folk ornamentation gives a feeling of stability and sustainability, so necessary for a modern person.
As a basis for the motif I used the Slavic symbol «Ognedeva», what’s mean the Sun, whose movement divides the year into four periods. The reflection of not the full rhombus of the Ognedeva, but only its quarter, is due to the lost connection with our history, the broken consciousness of the cyclicality and spiral development of our race. The color ripples in the ornament give us that very perspective of reuniting with our history and finding integrity.
